UPL reaffirms its commitment towards the betterment of the farmer community

~Adopts 4046 villages across the country ~

~Conducts various awareness and health programs for the farmers welfare~

Mumbai, 17 May , 2022: UPL Ltd., a global provider of sustainable agriculture products and solutions, has always been at the forefront for the welfare and upliftment of the farmer’s community. Its numerous efforts in UPL villages have been a testament to its commitment towards the betterment of farmers. In an effort to improve soil heath and inculcate sustainable farming practices in 8.4 lakh acres of land, UPL has adopted 4046 villages in 2021-2022 and aims to grow the number to 6000 by 2023. The company has been running various community development and educational programs for the farmers’ welfare.

With ProNutiva’s balanced input solutions, tech-led services, enhanced mechanisation, digital data systems and timely information made available to farmers at all times, the future of the adopted village appears better and greener than ever. The ProNutiva programme also provides farmers with last mile linkages in the form of retail stores. Currently, there are 16, 937 stores that aim to aid the farmers in choosing the right sustainable practices.

Further demonstrating its commitment towards the welfare of farmers, UPL has conducted various programs for the farmer’s safety and well-being. A pilot program in association with Bharat Serum Vaccine was organised to spread awareness around the effective management of Snake and Dog bites and protection against the same.  The pilot program was hosted in 4 villages, 2 each in Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. The company plans to replicate this in more villages and states soon. Furthermore, for sustainable development of these villages, UPL has introduced innovative methods for Carbon sequestration, Water saving, Electricity saving, Cost effective GAP and Mechanisation of Agriculture through drone technology.

Under the ambit of Dana Dana Keemti hai (Protect Grains; Each and Every Grain is Precious) campaign, UPL has been educating farmers for the last five years, on the appropriate storage of harvested grain. Farmers are made aware of the scientific methods of storing their grains with a live demonstration at their doorsteps.  The campaign has been successfully running across India and international markets too.

Currently, there are 4046 active villages that are reaping the benefits and by 2023 the company plans to serve 6000 villages with 12 lakh acres of land under the Pronutiva programme. Additionally this initiative of UPL has led to consistent growth of the enrolled farmer numbers from 1.5 lacs in 2019-2020 to 2.2 lacs in 2021-2022 and aims to grow to 4 lacs by 2023.

Ashish Dobhal, Director, India Region – UPL, said, “At UPL, we are committed to the well-being and success of our core stakeholders, the farmers. By decreasing risk and enhancing farmer quality of life, we hope to work with farmers to create a resilient and sustainable farming ecosystem. Their prosperity and welfare is at the core of all our efforts. Following the success of the pilot programs in UPL villages, we plan to take it a step further and adopt 6000 villages by 2023, with the goal of benefiting as many farmers as possible in the years ahead

Ranjitbhai Rudani, a farmer from Amreli, Gujrat said, “I started farming my groundnut field using the Pronutiva package under the guidance of UPL. It has been a great experience from crop establishment to harvest. I have seen double the yield in the Pronutiva treated acreage. All farmers should use the Pronutiva Package.”
