The BMS Society of Sydenham College set the stage for its main event, the Finance Conclave, with a captivating pre-event on 6th September, 2023 named ‘Buy or Die.’ Firstly, the Finance Conclave is a one day flagship event organised solely for young finance enthusiasts seeking to broaden their expertise in the world of Finance witnessing rigorous debates with Industry experts & Panellists. The pre- event “Buy or Die” held with the aim of promoting financial literacy among students, this event took the form of an exhilarating game of snake and ladders. Unlike the traditional game, ‘Buy or Die’ incorporated elements of life insurances and financial decision-making, making it an enlightening experience for the 28 teams from various colleges who participated.
The concept behind ‘Buy or Die’ was to engage participants in a fun yet educational journey through the world of personal finance. Each team was provided with a game board that resembled a traditional snake and ladder set but was infused with finance-related challenges and opportunities. It was a race where participants had to navigate through life’s financial ups and downs facing numerous hurdles while making crucial decisions about investments, expenses, and insurance.
One of the standout features of ‘Buy or Die’ was it being a life- sized snake & ladder game included the integration of life insurance concepts into the gameplay. Participants were required to purchase life insurance policies at the beginning of the game, making it a fundamental aspect of their financial strategy. This ingenious addition not only educated participants about the importance of life insurance but also sparked insightful discussions about risk management and financial planning.
The events department aligning their coordination for the “Buy or Die” event, has truly demonstrated their expertise in crafting a memorable experience. Simultaneously, the admin department being a bustling hub of activity, stationed at the foyer, strategically handled all aspects of the registration for events. The logistics department along with their accurate planning & execution have ensured that the crowd moves smoothly through the venue preventing any inconveniences.
The game’s mechanics were designed to simulate real-life financial scenarios, including unexpected expenses, windfalls, and investment opportunities. Players had to make strategic choices, and decide when to purchase additional insurance coverage or reduce their liabilities. This gamified approach made learning about personal finance not only accessible but also highly engaging.
